WHO recognises MBBS programme at AMIST University

October 16, 2010

SUNGAI PETANI, Oct 16 – The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree programme offered by AIMST University has received recognition from the World Health Organisation (WHO) which monitored the programme over the past three years.

Its chancellor, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, said the university received the recognition letter on Thursday, which stated that AIMST University was now listed as one of WHO’s recognised universities.

He said the recognition would also enable the university’s MBBS graduates to pursue studies overseas at a higher level.

“This university will also conduct more research to create new opportunities and improve its level of education.

“We will also appoint more experienced lecturers because AIMST University has so far, been accepted as a university for all in Kedah,” he told reporters after attending the university’s third convocation here today.

Samy Vellu said the university would also offer four post-graduate programmes, namely Masters of Science (MSc) in Anatomy, MSc Physiology, Msc Biochemistry and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management in the near future.

He said the programmes would be introduced with the aim of producing more young lecturers in the fields to fulfill the needs of local universities.

Samy Vellu said for MBA in Healthcare Management, focus would be given to lure individuals from the health sector, especially those serving in hospitals and pharmacies, to improve themselves to become administrator.

Besides, he said, the university was also in the midst of getting approval to implement a degree course in nursing and physiotherapy.

To date, AIMST University has produced over 1,000 graduates in various fields, especially medicine, and currently has over 2,000 local and foreign tudents, including those from Vietnam, Somalia and Nigeria. – Bernama

Random..

Something interesting I found on my friend's blog that I've decided to share with you all.. I think it kinds of most relationship issues that's going on today.. =p Long story short, basically a guy's and gal's point of view of an incident..

Her Side of the Story

He was in an odd mood when I got to the bar, I thought it might have been my fault because I was a bit late but he didn’t say anything much about it.

I don’t remember doing anything to make him upset, but I could tell there was something wrong. The conversation was quite slow going so I thought we should go off somewhere more intimate so we could talk more privately.

We went to this restaurant and he was STILL acting a bit funny. I was getting really worried, what did I do? What was bothering him? Was he mad at me?

I tried to cheer him up, but started to wonder what was bothering him. Was it me or something else? I asked him if he was upset with me, and he said “No”.

But I wasn’t really sure.

So anyway, in the cab on the way back to his house, I said that I love him, and he just put his arm around me! I didn’t know what the hell that meant because, you know, he doesn’t say it back or anything.

We finally got back to his place and I was wondering if he was going to break up with me! Why didn’t he want to talk about this? So I tried to ask him about it, but he just switched on the TV. Why would he rather watch TV than talk to me?

Reluctantly, I said I was going to go to sleep, hoping he would get the hint that I was upset and wanted to talk. I was so hurt that he was out there watching TV while I was in here going through emotional turmoil.

Then after about 10 minutes, he joined me and we had sex.

I thought that maybe he would open up after we shared an intimate experience like that, but he still seemed really distracted. So afterward, I just wanted to leave because I was so upset, but I just cried myself to sleep.

He didn’t even notice how upset I was! I don’t know, I just don’t know what he thinks anymore. I don’t know what to feel anymore. I’m on emotional overload. I’m so confused. I don’t think he loves me anymore.

Why does he have to play mind games with me? I mean, do you think he’s met someone else???

His Side of the Story

MU lost. Felt kinda tired. Got laid though.

You make the conclusions.. XD

Where politics begin..

Well, I have lots to blog about but just no time to pen it down.. Well, today I've finally decided to do one of my blog entries that has been bugging me for quite some time.. It's something called politics..

Now before u all going to say "Oh gosh, here's M'sia politics again", let me clarify that this time it's about university politics.. Yes, the politics at my university.. I'm pretty sure most of the unis in Malaysia have their student council elections rite? And of course everyone wants to win, nobody likes to lose.. Well, here at my uni, I finally saw for real how dirty politics can get..

There were 2 teams having a go at each other.. One was my friend's team, their members carefully selected.. The other a team which was hastily formed to counter my friend's team.. So it was a typical Malaysian style politic for you, banners of "VOTE FOR ME" around the cafe (and other places), manifestos and of course the dirtier side of politics.. What I meant by dirtier side is not that both the team were killing each other or what.. To me, both of the groups were having rather clean politics.. It was more of the supporters who were having a go at each other..

The day of the election came and the opposite team won, with the president winning a landslide victory.. Post-election shows 2-3 reasons why my friend's team lost..
1) There were just too many people who didn't wanted my friend.. U know what happens when u dun want BN and just vote the opposition? Same case here, but at least from what I know the winning team are really down to business.. At least that's a positive sign. =)

2) Majority of the people who know/supported my friend never really went to vote.. Gave excuses like lazy, line to long, go class whole day.. Bunch of lame excuses if you ask me.. The voter turn out was below 40%.. And to me, if you want to vote, you'll vote no matter how cramp your schedule is.. Sadly, my generation don't really see the importance of it.. Don't have to go far, a simple evaluation of lecturers is sometimes very difficult to conduct due to that attitude..

3) The election, in my opinion, was conducted rather poorly.. There was not much information about the location and time of the election.. I only knew about it in the afternoon prior to the day of the election.. So much emphasis was placed on the candidates that the EC simply forgot about mentioning the date and venue like a few days earlier.. Furthermore, many students who were eligible to vote were either away or having hospital classes or in Alor Setar.. So there's your majority of your voters..

Now, this is the 3rd Student Council Election in my university and I'm rather surprised by the whole process.. Even until now, some people are still talking about it even thou it's been like 2 weeks since the election..

However, there's one thing that I saw that totally confirm my opinion that politics in the uni is just same as in the country.. A very degrading video was posted about my friend in Facebook.. So degrading that a police investigation was required.. Now, it's only a uni level election but do you see the connection? We've been train from young to back stab each other, to 'kill' off each other and thus this is what you get at the national elections.. A very sad scenario indeed.. Remember the phrase "Don't point a finger at anyone, cause 3 fingers will be pointed back at you"? To whoever who did that, you know who you are.. God know who you are.. And believe me, God don't take this things lightly.. Something will happen, maybe not now but something will.. I won't be surprise if one day somebody is hand-cuffed by the police in my uni..

So that's the end of one of my many ramblings I have installed for you people.. Many more but I have to pick them carefully, as some matters are still ongoing while some has been resolved and it's best that we forget about them.. CHEERS!! =D
